For all my regular readers (and I'm sure there are SO many of you; please note the sarcasm) this book my seem different from my usual reads. It's called Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson. This story is about the horrendous yellow fever that established itself for a season in Philadelphia in the year 1793.
The historic tale is told from the view of a fourteen year old girl named Mattie [Matilda] Cook. While enjoying the pleasures of the newly enforced America, Mattie is suddenly attacked with the knowledge of the rapidly spreading "Fever" that is making it's way up and around the capital of the new United States.
This book really highlights the saying "You may have it bad but someone always has it worse" we hear all the time and puts it to a new perspective.
The book is short, simple, and I read it in, like, a day. So if you find yourself with some down time and you have a sudden interest in American History, read Fever 1793.
